The Sony Xperia 1 VI is one of the first smartphones to receive the Android 15 update, a surprising move for a company known for its slower update rollout. The update is currently rolling out to the UK variant (XQ-EC54).
While Sony has committed to three OS updates for the Xperia 1 VI, up from two for its predecessor, its track record for timely updates has been less than stellar. However, the recent addition of Wi-Fi 7 via a software update hinted at a potential shift in Sony's update strategy.
The Android 15 update, which includes the November 1st, 2024 security patch, is a sub-1GB over-the-air (OTA) download (version 69.1.A.2.78). While currently limited to the UK, the update is expected to reach other variants soon.
