Splinter Cell Movie Officially Cancelled

The long-planned movie adaptation of Ubisoft's Splinter Cell , once set to star Tom Hardy, has been officially cancelled. Producer Basil Iwanyk, during the 10th-anniversary celebration of the John Wick franchise, confirmed the news. Iwanyk signed on to the project, which would have starred Tom Hardy as Sam Fisher, back in 2013. Despite years of development, they were unable to find the right approach for the film. It could have been a great movie… But we couldn’t figure it out, in terms of the script or the budget. We went through a million different iterations, wanting to make it tough and cool. Alas, it's one of those projects we had to say goodbye to, which is very sad. Rumors of a Splinter Cell movie adaptation first surfaced in the early 2000s. Tom Hardy became attached to the project in 2012, with Doug Liman ( Edge of Tomorrow ) slated to direct in 2014.
