Xbox Head: No Limits on Porting Games to PlayStation, Nintendo; Handheld Still Years Away

Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, says any game in the Xbox portfolio could be ported to PlayStation and Nintendo consoles, and confirms an Xbox handheld.

In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Xbox head Phil Spencer revealed that any Xbox game could potentially be ported to PlayStation and Nintendo consoles, stating that there are no internal restrictions preventing such moves.

Spencer expressed satisfaction with the initial results of porting Xbox titles to other platforms and confirmed more are on the way. While he didn't specify which games, he emphasized that no titles are inherently off-limits, though a decision on porting Halo is premature. Simultaneous releases on all platforms seem unlikely, however.

Regarding the much-rumored Xbox handheld, Spencer confirmed its development, stating that the company "expects" to enter the handheld market. Prototyping is underway, with a focus on learning from the current handheld landscape. However, a release is still "a few years out."

This marks Spencer's most concrete statement on the Xbox handheld to date, though details about its capabilities and focus (local play vs. streaming) remain scarce.
