AMD AGESA 1.2.0.2b Patch Improves Ryzen Gaming Performance

The AMD AGESA 1.2.0.2b BIOS patch delivers better gaming performance on Ryzen CPUs, with improved 1% lows and reduced memory latency.

The beta BIOS featuring the AMD AGESA 1.2.0.2b patch appears to significantly enhance gaming performance on Ryzen CPUs, particularly with improved 1% lows compared to the previous 1.2.0.2a patch.

Core Tune Config and Performance Gains

The 1.2.0.2a patch introduced increased memory latency, causing concern among users. The new 1.2.0.2b patch addresses this issue on AM5 motherboards and provides noticeable performance improvements. A key feature of the 1.2.0.2b patch is "Core Tune Config," which, when set to Legacy mode, yields significantly better results.

YouTube channel Compusemble demonstrated these gains using a test system comprising a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 64GB of DDR5-6200 RAM, an ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming WiFi motherboard, and an RTX 4090 GPU. Tests across various games, including Hitman 3, Spider-Man Remastered, Cyberpunk 2077, and Starfield, showed consistent performance increases.

Games saw up to a 6.52% increase in average FPS compared to the 1.2.0.2a patch, with improvements ranging from 1% to 7% depending on the title. 1% lows also saw significant improvement, resulting in smoother and more enjoyable gameplay.

Memory Latency Improvements

The 1.2.0.2b patch also demonstrably reduces memory latency. Testing in AIDA64 Extreme shows latency decreased to 64 ns, down from over 68 ns with the 1.2.0.2a patch, bringing it back in line with pre-1.2.0.2a levels.

Availability

The benchmarks were conducted using a beta BIOS (version 3065), which is not yet officially released. Currently, BIOS 3057 with AGESA 1.2.0.2a is the latest official version. However, the 1.2.0.2b update is expected to be available soon.
