AMD's AM5 and AM4 motherboard sales have skyrocketed in Germany, demonstrating a significant lead over Intel. This growth, while partly seasonal, highlights AMD's strong position in the market and Intel's continued struggles.
AMD's Dominance in the German Market
AMD sold approximately 5000 motherboards in the past week on Mindfactory, a major German retailer, compared to just 555 units by Intel across all its platforms. This strong performance isn't just due to AMD's Zen architecture but also the lack of sufficient competition from Intel. AMD's growing CPU market share globally directly impacts its motherboard sales.
The data from Mindfactory reveals that AM5 motherboard sales reached nearly 3500 units, while AM4 sales exceeded 1500 units. In contrast, Intel's LGA 1700 platform for Alder/Raptor/Raptor Lake Refresh CPUs was the most successful for Intel, selling around 500 units. The older LGA 1200 platform sold only 30 units, and the latest LGA 1851 platform struggled with a mere 25 units.
Market Share and Revenue
The combined sales of all Intel motherboards don't even reach 1000 units, leaving AMD with a staggering 90% share of the total motherboard market in Germany. This translates to a revenue of €836,231 for AMD, compared to just €93,299 for Intel. Both AMD and Intel have an average selling price of €168 per motherboard.
While AMD's dominance is clear, the PC market benefits from competition. It is hoped that Intel can rebound with its next generation of products to ensure a healthy and competitive market.
