AMD is reportedly shifting its naming convention for next-generation graphics cards, with leaks suggesting the company is preparing Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 GPUs, along with mobile variants. This signals a move away from the expected Radeon 8000 series.
New Naming Scheme and RDNA4 Update
Multiple sources have confirmed the change in AMD's naming strategy. The leaks include details about desktop and mobile SKUs for the upcoming RDNA4 architecture. Notable among them are:
- Radeon RX 9070 XT
- Radeon RX 9070 (non-XT)
- Radeon RX 9070M XT (mobile)
- Radeon RX 9070M (mobile)
- Radeon RX 9070S (mobile)
The list indicates a possible four-tier system, with the highest SKU being the RX 9070 XT. It's also worth noting that no Radeon 9080 models are mentioned.
Strix Halo Integrated Graphics
The leak also confirms the names for three integrated graphics variants under the Strix Halo APU, expected to launch at CES 2025:
- Radeon RX 8060S
- Radeon RX 8050S
- Radeon RX 8040S
These high-end APUs are expected to feature up to 40 RDNA3.5 compute units.
RDNA3 Refresh
In addition, AMD is reportedly planning an update to its existing RDNA3 lineup with new xx50 variants, such as the Radeon 7650 GRE. This will affect both desktop and mobile graphics. The following SKUs are expected:
- Radeon RX 7750 Series
- Radeon RX 7650 Series
- Radeon RX 7750S
- Radeon RX 7650 GRE
- Radeon RX 7650M XT
- Radeon RX 7650M
- Radeon RX 7650S
Retailer Listing
Leaker @momomo_us also spotted the new Radeon 9070 series at one retailer (Grosbill Pro), listing the RX 9070XT and RX 9070 models. This adds further credibility to the leaks and the new naming scheme.
