AMD's upcoming "Strix Halo" series, branded as Ryzen AI MAX, has been spotted in the PassMark benchmark database. The leaks reveal impressive performance for the integrated Radeon 8050S iGPU, outperforming the RX 7600 discrete GPU.
Ryzen AI MAX 300 Series
AMD is preparing to launch the Ryzen AI MAX 300 series, which will come in PRO variants for professionals and non-PRO variants for gamers. While details about the differences are scarce, PRO variants will include Ryzen PRO technologies. It's expected that both sub-series will offer similar levels of performance.
PassMark Benchmarks
The PassMark database shows entries for the Ryzen AI MAX+ PRO 395 and MAX PRO 390. While the meaning of the "plus" designation is unclear, both feature the Zen 5 architecture and RDNA 3.5 graphics. The 395 is rumored to have 16 Zen 5 cores and 40 Compute Units (CUs), while the 390 is expected to be a 12-core variant.
Interestingly, while earlier leaks suggested both SKUs would feature Radeon 8060S graphics with 40 CUs, the PRO 390 is equipped with Radeon 8050S graphics, which are expected to have 32 CUs. Despite the lower CU count, the Radeon 8050S has demonstrated higher scores than the 8060S in the 3D PassMark test, though the exact reason remains unclear.
Performance Analysis
These results place the Radeon 8000S integrated GPUs in the performance range between the RX 7600 XT and RX 7600. While they do not match the performance of high-end GPUs like the RTX 4070 or RTX 4060 in this benchmark, the performance achieved is comparable to some entry-level and mid-range dedicated GPUs.
Keep in mind that these benchmarks may not fully represent the final performance of retail products, as this could be attributed to the early nature of the testing samples. AMD is expected to formally announce the new Ryzen AI MAX series at CES 2025, just a few weeks away.
