Apple's Magic Mouse, largely unchanged for 15 years, is finally rumored to be getting a major redesign. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, a new version is still at least 12 to 18 months away, but it might be worth the wait.
A Long-Overdue Redesign?
Despite its clean, almost supercar-like design, the Magic Mouse has faced significant criticism for its poor ergonomics. The placement of the Lightning port on the second generation also drew criticism as it's placed on the underside of the mouse making it impossible to use while charging.
Even though Apple eventually updated the mouse with a USB-C port, they unfortunately kept the port in the same inconvenient location, meaning the mouse was still impossible to use while charging.
According to Mark Gurman, the new "Magic Mouse 3" (possibly branded "Magic Mouse 2026") is expected to feature a significant "design overhaul." This suggests that Apple might finally address the most common criticisms regarding ergonomics and charging.
Keep an eye out for more information in the coming months and hopefully some real improvements to what has been one of Apple's most criticized accessories.
