Apple's 18.8-Inch Foldable Device: iPad or Mac in 2027?

Foldable iPad Pro or MacBook?

According to Ross Young from Display Supply Chain Consultants, the foldable device is expected to be an OLED display and could debut as an iPad Pro. Recent reports from The Wall Street Journal also suggest that Apple is developing a larger foldable device "intended to serve as a laptop," which could be around 19 inches when unfolded. Furthermore, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has mentioned that Apple is also working on a "giant" tablet, which is expected to launch around 2028.

The final form of the device will depend on whether Apple chooses to use iPadOS (resulting in a foldable iPad) or macOS (resulting in a foldable MacBook). The hinge mechanism also plays a critical role in this decision.

OLED iPad mini and other Display Upgrades

In addition to the foldable device, Apple is also rumored to be working on an OLED version of the iPad mini, expected to launch in 2026. This would likely be the iPad mini 8 and should address the "jelly scrolling" issue. Reports also suggest that Apple intends to upgrade the iPad Air and entry-level iPad models to OLED displays in 2027, signifying a broader shift towards OLED technology across its product line.
