Fans longing for a Dead Space 4 will have to wait even longer. The original creators of the franchise revealed that they pitched a new installment to Electronic Arts (EA) in 2024, but the publisher declined the proposal.

The closure of Visceral Games in 2017, while they were developing the Star Wars project codenamed Ragtag, put a damper on Dead Space 4 hopes. While the successful remake of the first game by Motive Studios in 2023 rekindled interest, disappointing sales figures led EA to put the IP back on hold.

A Rejected Pitch

In a video interview with YouTuber Dan Allen Gaming, Bret Robbins, Glen Schofield, and Christopher Stone, three of the original Dead Space creators, revealed their unsuccessful attempt to pitch Dead Space 4 to EA.

"We tried, actually, you know, the three of us, for Dead Space 4... they just said we're not interested right now, we appreciate it, blah blah blah." - Glen Schofield

"The industry is in a weird place right now, and people are really hesitant to take chances on things...maybe one day. I think we'd all love to do Dead Space 4." - Christopher Stone

It's likely that EA was hesitant after the remake didn't achieve the expected sales numbers. The trio were available at the time, after their own recent projects weren't as successful as they had hoped.

Bret Robbins' studio, Ascendant Studios, saw major layoffs after the disappointing launch of Immortals of Aveum. Glen Schofield and Christopher Stone's game, The Callisto Protocol, also underperformed compared to its budget.

What Are They Doing Now?

All three developers have moved on to new roles:

  • Bret Robbins is now a Game Director at Absurd Ventures.
  • Christopher Stone is the Studio General Manager of VOID Interactive.

Glen Schofield is currently working on a smaller project and seeking funding.

"I have been working on a smaller project... It's something kind of special for me." - Glen Schofield

It seems a Dead Space 4 will likely be a long time coming, but fans can hold out hope that the original creators are still interested in making it happen someday.
