An Intel GPU Software Development Engineer, Dr. Moritz Lehmann (u/ProjectPhysX on Reddit), has showcased a unique PC build using dual Intel Arc B580 GPUs and an Nvidia Titan Xp for running FluidX3D simulations.

The system combines two Intel Arc B580 GPUs with an Nvidia Titan Xp 12GB, providing a total of 36GB of VRAM. Interestingly, the entire system is powered by an 800-watt PSU. The rest of the build includes an Intel i7-13700K and an Asus Z790 ProArt motherboard.

FluidX3D and Multi-GPU Power

This isn't Dr. Lehmann's first multi-GPU setup for FluidX3D. He previously demoed the software's multi-GPU capabilities using an Intel Arc A770 and the same Nvidia Titan Xp. FluidX3D, developed by Dr. Lehmann, is a computational fluid dynamics software used to simulate fluid interactions.

The setup leverages the combined VRAM of the three GPUs via PCIe using OpenCL. While multi-GPU gaming support is limited, Dr. Lehmann notes that a dual B580 setup can match the performance of an RTX 3090 but at a lower price point than a used Nvidia Ampere flagship GPU.

Intel Engineer Behind the Build

Dr. Lehmann, as a GPU Software Development Engineer at Intel, is also responsible for writing parts of the GPU kernels for XeSS Frame Generation and Super Resolution.

Demand for the B580

The Intel Arc B580 has been a popular choice, with the cheapest models selling out quickly. Our own review declared it the new $249 GPU champion. Be cautious when purchasing and only buy from trusted retailers.
