Eve Systems has finally released its Android app, but with significant limitations. Currently, the app only supports the Eve Thermo smart radiator valve and integration with Google Home.
Limited Device and Platform Support
Announced at IFA 2022, the Eve for Matter app arrived on the Google Play Store after a long wait. However, Android users hoping for parity with iOS features will be disappointed. Only the Eve Thermo is currently compatible; other Eve devices are not supported.
While Android users previously enjoyed multi-device support through SmartThings and Alexa integrations, this app represents a step back for those users. The app itself offers scheduling and other features not supported by Matter alone. This additional functionality is only accessible through the Eve app, while iOS users already enjoy wider device and feature support.
Eve Thermo Upgrade
Existing Eve Thermo users need to upgrade their devices for Matter compatibility. A new Matter-over-Thread compatible version is available for €79.95. Check Amazon for potential discounts.
While the new app simplifies setup with Google Home, the limited device support makes the release less beneficial for many Android users who already had multi-device support with alternative integrations. Further device support and expanded features are expected in the future.
