A former Apple employee has filed a lawsuit against the company, claiming it violated his privacy rights through extensive surveillance, even extending into his personal life.
The lawsuit, filed Sunday in a California state court, alleges that Apple monitors its employees through physical, video, and electronic surveillance, even outside of work hours. The plaintiff, Amar Bhakta, who worked in Apple's advertising technology department since 2020, argues that these policies infringe on employee privacy rights and violate California law.
Bhakta claims Apple restricted him from discussing digital advertising in public forums and even pressured him to edit his LinkedIn profile. He argues that these restrictions limited his professional opportunities. The lawsuit also alleges that while Apple requires employees to use company devices for work, their limitations often force employees to use personal devices and iCloud accounts, which Apple then allegedly monitors.
Apple has denied the allegations, emphasizing its commitment to employee rights and a positive work environment. The case will determine whether Apple's policies overstep legal boundaries regarding privacy and individual career choices.
