Epic Games has announced Fortnite Ballistic, a new 5v5 tactical first-person shooter mode coming to Fortnite. Launching in early access on December 11th, Ballistic will initially feature a single map (Skyline 10), a starting set of weapons, and a limited number of items. Epic plans to expand the content based on player feedback.
Gameplay
Inspired by tactical shooters like Rainbow Six Siege, Fortnite Ballistic divides players into attackers and defenders. Attackers must plant a Rift Point Device at one of two designated locations, while defenders must stop them. Rounds end when the device detonates or one team is eliminated. Teams switch sides after six rounds, and the match ends when one team wins 7 rounds.
Players can choose from five "Flex Gadgets" to use during matches. Examples include:
- Proximity Mine
- Bubble Shield
- Recon Grenade
- Frag Grenade
- Impulse Grenade
Ranked and Unranked Play
Fortnite Ballistic will offer both Ranked and Unranked modes. Unranked provides a more casual experience with backfilling for players who leave. Ranked mode is designed for competitive play, with rank adjustments based on match outcomes. Ranked matches are not backfilled, and leaving a ranked match results in a penalty.
