A new Xbox controller, codenamed Sebile, featuring DualSense-like haptics is still on track for release, and it's expected to debut alongside the next-generation Xbox console.
The existence of the Sebile controller was first revealed in a leaked Microsoft document from the FTC vs. Microsoft legal battle in September 2023. The leaked information indicated improvements such as enhanced wireless connectivity, direct-to-cloud connection, Bluetooth 5.2, new modular thumbsticks, replaceable and rechargeable batteries, and, most notably, haptic feedback similar to the PlayStation 5's DualSense controller.
Patent Confirms Haptic Technology
A recently published patent linked to the Sebile controller confirms the focus on haptic technology. The patent describes a device with a haptic motor attached to a connector that generates feedback by moving relative to the controller's housing.
A device configured to generate haptic feedback is disclosed. The device includes a housing, a connector, and a haptic motor. The connector includes a mount end coupled to the housing and a distal end spaced away from the mount end. The haptic motor is coupled to the distal end of the connector. Activation of the haptic motor causes the haptic motor to move relative to the housing to generate the haptic feedback.
Launch with Next-Gen Xbox
Windows Central further confirms that the new Xbox controller is still in development and is planned for launch alongside the next-gen Xbox console. Microsoft is reportedly forgoing a mid-generation refresh and focusing on the upcoming console, which Xbox president Sarah Bond has teased will have the biggest technical leap ever seen.
Rumors suggest that Microsoft might release the next-gen console earlier than Sony's PlayStation 6, possibly as early as 2026. If true, the Sebile Xbox controller could also be launching sooner than anticipated.
