A recent leak suggests that the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 laptop GPU will not offer a substantial increase in CUDA core count compared to its predecessor. Instead, it will focus on leveraging the new Blackwell architecture and 16 GB of GDDR7 VRAM for a performance boost.
RTX 5080 Specifications
According to Moore's Law is Dead, the GeForce RTX 5080 will feature 7,680 CUDA cores. This is only a slight increase from the 7,424 CUDA cores in the GeForce RTX 4080 laptop version. Despite the modest increase in CUDA cores and a minor shift from TSMC 4N to TSMC 4NP manufacturing node, the new GPU is expected to deliver a 40-60% performance improvement over the RTX 4080. The RTX 5080 is expected to launch with a max TGP of 175 Watts, the same as the previous generation, due to thermal constraints.
This new information contradicts an earlier leak by Tom that suggested the RTX 5080 would have 8,192 CUDA cores, a number more in line with a Ti-branded SKU. However, there is currently no evidence of an RTX 5080 Ti variant.
It's important to note that the performance boost might not be as significant as the 40-60% figure, due to the marginal increase in CUDA cores and thermal limitations.
