Path of Exile 2's early access launch has encountered login issues as Grinding Gear Games performs last-minute server upgrades. The unexpectedly high player count, exceeding one million pre-sales, has prompted these upgrades.
Game director Jonathan Rogers had anticipated potential queue times, stating, "Before the launch...we really didn’t expect to have more than a million people online at the same time." Within 30 minutes of launch, the concurrent player count on Steam surpassed 286,000, but players were stuck at the login screen.
Grinding Gear Games announced on X that they were "doing some last minute database upgrades" and warned of a potential "short delay." The studio's latest update indicates the new database configuration has been deployed, and access should be restored within the next half-hour.
High interest in Path of Exile 2 is evident, with over one million viewers watching Twitch streams. The game is drawing comparisons to Diablo 4 and even FromSoftware titles, broadening its appeal beyond existing Path of Exile fans.
