Qualcomm's next Snapdragon X Elite series might expand beyond laptops and into the desktop realm. Following Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon's hints about Oryon V3 processors revitalizing computing performance, leaker Roland Quandt has shared details about a potential desktop-class Snapdragon X Elite 2 SKU.
Quandt previously linked "Project Glymur" to the second-generation Snapdragon X Elite chipsets and the codename "SC8480XP." Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon has teased "truly incredible" performance from the next-gen Snapdragon X series, hinting at the use of Oryon V3 cores.
Now, Quandt reports that Qualcomm may be aiming for the desktop market with Project Glymur. Prototypes featuring an All-in-One (AiO) 120mm cooler suggest Qualcomm's ambitions extend beyond simply improving laptop performance.
Earlier rumors hinted at Qualcomm developing a server-grade SD1 chip with 80 Oryon V1 cores. This new Oryon V3 prototype could be an evolution of that design. In the meantime, Qualcomm is expected to release Snapdragon X chipsets for laptops priced under $600.
