The developers of the popular RPCS3 PlayStation 3 emulator have recently released ports for ARM-based Linux, Windows, and macOS devices. However, they have confirmed that there are no current plans to bring the emulator to Android or iOS.
This announcement comes as a disappointment to mobile gamers, especially considering the increasing power of modern smartphones. Even with the new ARM support, the team explicitly stated they are not working on mobile ports.
The RPCS3 team cited several reasons for this decision, primarily focusing on community issues faced by other mobile emulator projects. They referenced the AetherSX2 PS2 emulator, whose development was halted due to harassment from toxic users. They also expressed concerns about the redistribution of modified emulator versions containing malware and Google's perceived ineffectiveness in addressing this problem.
While the RPCS3 developers haven't completely ruled out Android and iOS ports in the future, they are not a priority at this time. This is unfortunate, given that high-end phones, particularly those with the Snapdragon 8 Elite, are becoming increasingly capable of emulating even demanding games.
