Google CEO Sundar Pichai has addressed concerns about Google's AI development and promised major improvements to its search engine in 2025, during an appearance at the NYT's DealBook Summit.
Pichai expressed confidence in Google's AI capabilities and welcomed a direct comparison with Microsoft's offerings. He pointed out that Microsoft relies on external models (referencing their partnership with OpenAI), while Google develops its own AI models in-house. This difference in approach, Pichai argues, makes a direct comparison unfair.
He further emphasized Google's commitment to innovation and its position at the forefront of AI development:
"When I look at what’s coming ahead...there’s so much innovation ahead...We are committed to being at the state of the art in this field, and I think we are."
Google has already integrated AI into Search with features like search summaries and Google Lens. The company aims to redefine the search experience by leveraging AI to make it more seamless and versatile. They are reportedly working on upgrading their Gemini model to enhance its competitiveness.
