Tesla Offers Free Supercharging for Cybertruck, Fixes Cold Weather Battery Issues

Tesla is offering free lifetime Supercharging for new Cybertruck Foundation Series buyers and addressing cold weather battery performance issues.

Tesla is now offering free lifetime Supercharging for new Cybertruck Foundation Series vehicles, along with fixes for cold weather battery issues. This move signals a shift as Tesla seeks to bolster interest in its electric pickup.

Tesla Offers Free Supercharging for Cybertruck, Fixes Cold Weather Battery Issues

Free Supercharging Offer

The free lifetime Supercharging offer is available for new Cybertruck Foundation Series inventory vehicles that include:

  • Free FSD (Full Self-Driving)
  • Exclusive badging
  • Premium accessories

These vehicles start at $94,490 for the AWD version with "less than 50 miles on the odometer."

The offer is non-transferable and applies only to the original owner and account. Idle and congestion fees still apply.

Addressing Charging Costs

This offer isn't trivial. A Cybertruck owner recently reported spending $964 in a single month on charging, making it as expensive to drive as a gas vehicle. The free Supercharging should offset this cost significantly for owners of the Foundation Series model.

Cold Weather Battery Fixes

In addition to free charging, Tesla is making changes to enhance the Cybertruck's charging experience, including:

  • Increased charging speed at V4 Superchargers up to 325 kW.
  • An upcoming software update (2015.2) to unlock proper battery preconditioning to improve charging and regenerative braking in cold weather.

Currently, the 4680 battery pack charges slowly in cold weather, and regenerative braking is severely limited. The new software update should solve these issues, eliminating the need to manually preheat the battery by setting a Supercharger as a destination.

Tesla has acknowledged these issues and confirmed a fix with the upcoming software update.
