The Witcher IV: Gwent Confirmed, Ciri's Powers Detailed

Gwent is Back

During a video interview with Easy Allies, the developers confirmed the return of Gwent. This will please fans of the popular mini-game.

"We really love the game and we also really carefully always listen to the community, which we love. It's an amazing one. I don't think anyone will be disappointed." - Gosia Mitręga, CD Projekt RED

"Yeah, for sure. You know, it's a part of the experience." - Sebastian Kalemba, CD Projekt RED

Ciri's New Powers

The developers discussed Ciri’s new abilities, such as the magic chain seen in the trailer, and her role as a “Source." This means she has Elder Blood and can control and catalyze magic like mages but uses energy rather than traditional spells.

“The chain is not only a utility tool that comes from the school of the Lynx, but also it's a pretty cool reference to the very first initial trailer we released 20 years ago for Striga... Ciri is a pretty special being. She's a Source... Ciri, as a powerful Source, after being mutated, is also able to use this magic, as Geralt could use Signs, which are like simplified magic.” - Sebastian Kalemba, CD Projekt RED

In the trailer, Ciri is shown extracting energy from water to create a bolt, demonstrating her ability to manipulate the elements.

Canon and The Wild Hunt Endings

When asked about which ending of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be considered canon, the developers were vague but suggested it will be an ending that aligns with Ciri’s Witcher journey.

"We cannot tell you more right now, but definitely, we will refer to The Wild Hunt endings for sure, because we pay a lot of respect to the canon... The Witcher IV happens a few years after The Wild Hunt. Geralt will appear, and who knows who else.” - Sebastian Kalemba, CD Projekt RED

The developers also confirmed an enhanced monster-hunting experience will be a core part of the game and that the village in the trailer will be in the game world.

There is no release date yet for The Witcher IV. Stay tuned for more updates!
