CD Projekt RED has shared details about the scope of The Witcher IV, stating it will be comparable in size to The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, with a strong emphasis on quality over quantity.
Similar Scale to The Witcher III
Game Director Sebastian Kalemba explained that while the team is using data from previous Witcher games and Cyberpunk 2077 to inform the game's structure, they aren't focused on reaching specific numerical targets. He confirmed that The Witcher IV's map and the number of quests will be more or less the same as The Witcher III.
Kalemba stated that the game will be "pretty big," but stressed the team's ambition to deliver a "super compelling experience." The primary goal is to focus on quality, rather than just increasing the size and quantity of content.
Focus on Quality
The Witcher III: Wild Hunt is renowned for its large open world, which can easily take over 100 hours to complete with all the side content. CD Projekt RED aims to deliver a similar scale in The Witcher IV, while prioritizing the quality of quests and gameplay.
Early Stages of Development
It was clarified that the reveal was simply an announcement of the title and protagonist, and not the start of a full marketing campaign. The game only entered full production earlier this year, suggesting a release is likely still a couple of years away.
