Recent reports suggest that TikTok may have drastically reduced the number of users that can be invited daily through its rewards program. According to user reports on Reddit, the alleged limit has been reduced from ten to just two invites per day, causing widespread frustration.
TikTok's Growth Push and Rewards Program
TikTok recently launched a major promotional campaign offering users credits redeemable in the TikTok Shop for inviting new users. Users could make up to $50 per referral plus an additional $350 in bonuses. This promotional campaign came amid concerns about a potential US ban and a mandated sale of its operations.
However, this potential change has caused frustration, as it has dramatically reduced earning potential for some users. Instead of earning potentially $20 daily by inviting ten people, they can now only earn $4.
Reduced Invite Limit: A Crackdown on Exploitation?
This move, if confirmed, might be a way for TikTok to curb exploitation of its reward system. Social media has been flooded with referral links, so the platform might be tightening the rules to ensure rewards go to genuine users, not those trying to "game" the system.
Conflicting Information
While Reddit users report seeing this invite limit, TikTok’s support page still claims no invite limit exists in most regions. Exceptions include Egypt, which has a cap of 100 invites per day. The official TikTok FAQ currently states:
“Although there is currently no cap on the number of referrals you can make, users from Egypt, Morocco and Pakistan can only invite up to 100 new users per day.”
Users are reporting that they can verify this limit in the app's "How much can I earn on TikTok rewards" section. However, without official confirmation, confusion remains.
Past Issues with TikTok
This isn't the first time TikTok has faced user discontent. The platform has previously dealt with issues such as:
- Creators frustrated over viral videos being disqualified from payout programs.
- Bugs like disappearing reposted videos and deleted drafts.
- Ongoing legal challenges, including a challenge against Canada’s unit shutdown order and the US ban.
Despite these challenges, TikTok Shop's U.S. sales tripled on Black Friday, and its European expansion is ongoing.
