VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association) has announced two new certification standards for high-performance gaming monitors: DisplayHDR True Black 1000 and ClearMR 21000. These new standards are designed for premium OLED displays and high-speed gaming monitors.
DisplayHDR True Black 1000
VESA is introducing the DisplayHDR True Black 1000 certification to address the increasing luminance capabilities of modern OLED displays. This new tier recognizes OLED displays capable of reaching up to 1000 nits of peak brightness in HDR mode. According to VESA, this certification will be used for "premium OLED HDR displays."
ClearMR 21000
VESA is also introducing ClearMR 21000, a new standard aimed at high-speed gaming monitors. This certification confirms improved motion clarity and faster response times. Several major monitor manufacturers have already confirmed that their upcoming models will meet this new standard.
Manufacturer Support
Several manufacturers are already on board with these new standards. Gigabyte has confirmed its flagship gaming monitors for 2025 will adopt the ClearMR 21000 standard. MSI has also announced that its new QD-OLED monitors with DisplayPort 2.1a (UHBR20) will support the ClearMR 21000 standard. Additionally, LG's UltraGear OLED 480Hz Gaming Monitor (27GX790A) is the first gaming monitor certified under ClearMR 21000. Samsung Display is also working towards certification for both the HDR and ClearMR standards.
