Japanese publisher Nihon Falcom has unveiled updates for both the Ys and Trails series. They've announced Ys X: Proud Nordics, an enhanced version of the recently released Ys X, and confirmed that Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter will launch on PC and PlayStation 5 in Fall 2025.
Ys X: Proud Nordics
Ys X: Proud Nordics is an updated version of Ys X, featuring new content like Aland Island, located north of Obelia Gulf. Adol and Karja will encounter a mysterious Mana user, learn new Mana Actions, and face new bosses, Mana Ride races, and arena battles. Currently announced for Japan, it's slated for release sometime next year.
Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter
Previously announced for Nintendo Switch, Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, a remake of the first game in the Trails series, is now also coming to PC and PlayStation 5 in Fall 2025. Published by GungHo Online Entertainment in the West, it will include English and Japanese voice-overs and English, Japanese, French, and German subtitles. A new trailer has also been released showcasing updated visuals and combat.
While the announcement of additional platforms and a release window for Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter is welcome, the announcement of Ys X: Proud Nordics so soon after the Western release of the original game has raised some eyebrows, despite the enjoyable experience it provides.
