Think Basim's adventures in Baghdad were done and dusted? Whispers are circling in, and it looks like we might be returning to the bustling streets of Assassin's Creed Mirage. It looks like Ubisoft may weigh in on an eventual DLC for the game that came as a sort of surprise to many of us.
The Rumor Mill is Turning
A report by French publication Les Echos, picked up by the ever-reliable Assassin's Creed leaker j0nathan, kickstarted the buzz. Apparently, a recent visit by Ubisoft's President Yves Guillemot to Saudi Arabia might have set the roads in motion for this unexpected expansion. The main player here? Savvy Games Group.
"Ubisoft has allied itself with the Savvy Games group, which will be the main contributor to this project." - Les Echos (Reported)
This seems to be the reason for the potential DLC because of this partnership with Savvy Games. The suggestion here is that Savvy Games is funding the project, and this was what convinced Ubisoft to greenlight something they weren't initially planning.
An Unexpected Twist in the Tale
Why is that surprising? Well, Assassin's Creed Mirage was originally imagined as a more intimate, tighter game, one that actually started as a Valhalla DLC. And with Assassin's Creed Shadows just around the corner-the game launches in March 2025!-, throwing resources into a Mirage DLC wasn't exactly what anyone was feeling.
Mirage released in October 2023, and unlike a few of its predecessors, it has not seen any DLC content since. This does feel very out of left field, especially when considering the context of that rumor. The report itself states, though, that Ubisoft can be full of surprises. Anyone remember that Odyssey crossover event that came way after it launched, even after Valhalla had come out? That's some super-thin precedent that this might, just might, happen.
Take It with a Grain of Salt Required For Now
This is still very firmly in the realm of rumor. We wait for official confirmation from Ubisoft that lets us know whether or not this Mirage DLC exists. No launch dates, no story details-for now, just whispers and speculation.
But even so. the prospect of returning to Baghdad, maybe digging up even more secrets about Basim's hidden past, is quite alluring, isn't it? Until we receive official confirmation of this, we will be keeping our ears and eyes out for more hints. Stay tuned.
