Game developers today have an easier time with optimization, thanks to upscaling technologies. It turns out, these aren't just helpful; they're incredibly popular. NVIDIA's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) is proving to be a favorite among gamers.
The Rise of DLSS
According to a report by The Verge, over 80% of gamers with RTX video cards regularly use DLSS. This widespread adoption highlights the technology's impact on modern gaming. Additionally, NVIDIA reports that gamers have spent over 3 billion hours in games with DLSS enabled.
Currently, DLSS supports 540 video games as of January 2025, and 15 out of the top 20 releases of 2024 feature support for NVIDIA's upscaling technology.
DLSS 4 and RTX 50 Series
NVIDIA recently unveiled DLSS 4, which is set to include advanced architectural improvements and multi-frame generation. These features will be exclusive to the RTX 50 series of video cards. The new NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 also heavily relies on upscaling technologies.
