Alright, folks, the hype train for NVIDIA's RTX 50 series is picking up serious speed! We've just seen some pretty juicy leaks that all but confirm the imminent arrival of the GeForce RTX 5080. Thanks to some eagle-eyed sleuthing by @wxnod, we've got our first look at Gainward's RTX 5080 packaging, and it's got us buzzing!
the box art confirms a few key details:
- 16 GB of GDDR7 memory: Yep, you read that right. We're getting the next-gen memory standard, promising some serious bandwidth.
- 3-Year Warranty: Gainward has you covered for the long haul.

What's Under the Hood?
Okay, so we know the memory is sorted, but what about the brains of this operation? The RTX 5080 will be based on the PG144/147-SKU45 PCB and will feature the GB203-400-A1 GPU die. This is where things get interesting. The RTX 5080 is said to use the full GB203 GPU with 84 SMs and 10,752 cores. Now, before you get too excited, that's a whopping -51% reduction in cores compared to the monstrous RTX 5090. For context, the difference between the RTX 4090 and 4080 was around -40%, so expect a bigger gap in real-world performance. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but don't expect it to be a scaled-down RTX 5090.
However, the RTX 5080 will be equipped with GDDR7 modules delivering up to 32 Gbps speeds for 1024 GB/s (1 TB/s) of total bandwidth. It's also expected to have a 360W TBP (Total Board Power), which is a 12.5% increase over the RTX 4080 SUPER. Real-world power consumption might be different.
When Can You Get Your Hands on It?
The RTX 5090 and 5080 are set to launch either by the end of January or early February, so we're just a few weeks away from seeing these cards hit the shelves. Expect to hear a lot more details, probably at CES 2025.
