GMK, a mini PC manufacturer, is entering the eGPU market with the new AD-GP1 external GPU dock. This compact device aims to bring discrete graphics capabilities to mini PCs, handhelds, and laptops through its versatile connectivity options.
Features and Specifications
The GMK AD-GP1 measures 163.9 x 110.5 x 39.9mm (6.45" x 4.35" x 1.57") and offers both USB4 and OCuLink connections. It also supports up to four external displays.
However, it uses the same AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT GPU, a mobile GPU, which has been seen in many other eGPU docks like the ONEXGPU, AYANEO AG01, BoostR, MINISFORUM MGA1, and GPD G1. This GPU is based on the RDNA 3 architecture, featuring 8GB of GDDR6 memory and a 120W TGP.
Key specs include:
- Navi 33 graphics architecture
- 8GB of GDDR6 memory
- 120 watt TGP
Connectivity
The eGPU includes the following ports:
- 2 x DisplayPort 2.0
- 2 x HDMI 2.1
- 1 x OCuLink (PCIe 4.0 x4)
- 1 x USB4 Type-C (for data and up to 100W USB-PD power input)
- 1 x DC power input
The GMK AD-GP1 comes with a 240-watt power supply.
The Downside: Non-Upgradable GPU
While offering a significant performance boost, the main limitation of the AD-GP1 is its non-upgradable GPU. Unlike desktop-style graphics docks with PCIe slots, this eGPU has the mobile GPU built in. To upgrade to newer graphics would require purchasing a new eGPU.
Pricing and Availability
GMK has not yet announced pricing or availability for the AD-GP1. The company has sent out promotional pictures that suggest the device is not exclusively for GMK, featuring the word "Brand" on the front where a logo would usually be placed.
