G.Skill has announced a new record for overclocking their DDR5 RAM, achieving effective clock speeds of over 12,000 MHz using standard air cooling, without resorting to extreme methods like liquid nitrogen. This breakthrough was accomplished with their Triden Z5 memory modules, demonstrating the potential of high-performance air cooling.
Overclocking Achievements
Two notable overclocking results were recorded:
- Canadian overclocker "saltycroissant" pushed G.SKILL Trident Z5 DDR5-8000 CL38 memory to a nominal speed of 6026 MHz (DDR5-12,052). This was achieved with an ASRock Z890 Taichi OCF motherboard and an Intel Core Ultra 7 265K processor.
- Indonesian enthusiast "speed.fastest" achieved a slightly higher result, hitting DDR5-12,054. This used an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K processor and an ASUS ROG Maximus Z890 Apex motherboard.
Significance of the Achievement
These achievements have been validated on HWBOT and CPU-Z databases. Previously, speeds like these required extreme cooling solutions. While these results are not guaranteed for long-term stability, they underscore the potential of G.Skill's memory and the capabilities of air cooling. This indicates that the limits of memory technology are continually being pushed.
