Lossless Scaling 3: Up to 3x FPS Boost on Gaming Handhelds

Lossless Scaling 3 delivers up to 3x FPS boost on the Asus ROG Ally X, with workable frame latency, according to recent tests.

Lossless Scaling 3, a third-party frame rate upscaling tool, has been recently updated, with tests showing significant performance gains on gaming handhelds like the Asus ROG Ally X. The new version promises up to a 20x frame generation mode, and improved performance in regular 2x and 3x modes.

Testing on the Asus ROG Ally X

The YouTuber ETA Prime tested Lossless Scaling 3 on the ROG Ally X, which uses the last-gen Ryzen Z1 Extreme. Here are the results for the games tested:

Doom Eternal

Without any scaling, the game averaged around 60 FPS at 900p on High settings. With Lossless Scaling 3 set to "X2" mode, the frame rate doubled while adding minimal frame latency.

Hogwarts Legacy

At 720p on High settings, the game averaged around 44 FPS. With Lossless Scaling 3 set to "X2" mode, the average frame rate increased to approximately 74 FPS.

Starfield

The frame rate jumped from around 30 FPS to about 60 FPS.

3x Mode Performance

ETA Prime also tested the 3x mode on Forza Horizon 5, with the game averaging around 40 FPS at 1080p on Ultra settings. With Lossless Scaling 3's "X3" mode, the frame rate jumped to around 100 FPS. According to ETA Prime, this performance increase was achieved with manageable frame latency.
