NetEase's free-to-play superhero shooter, Marvel Rivals, continues to surge in popularity, setting new records and generating impressive revenue. The launch of Season 1 has fueled further growth, with a new concurrency record on Steam and an estimated $135 million in earnings in its first month.
New Steam Concurrency Record
The game recently surpassed its previous concurrency record of 480,000 players on Steam, reaching a new peak of 644,000 online players according to SteamDB. This surge is largely attributed to the launch of Season 1.
Season 1 Content
Season 1 of Marvel Rivals has introduced several exciting additions:
- Fantastic Four Characters: Mister Fantastic, Human Torch, the Thing, and Invisible Woman are now playable characters, adding popular heroes to the roster.
- Doom Match Mode: A new game mode where 8 to 12 players from different factions battle on a single map, with the top 50% considered the winning side.
- Midnight Features Event: A seasonal event offering limited-time rewards, including exclusive cosmetics.
- Twitch Drops: Twitch viewers can unlock exclusive rewards by watching streams.
Battle Pass and Revenue
Season 1 includes a new Battle Pass, the Eternal Night Fall Luxury Battle Pass, which contains significantly more content than the Season 0 pass, including 10 costumes and related content. The pass costs 990 Lattice, and players can earn back 600 Lattice and 600 Units by completing it.
A Chinese website, Game Look, estimated the game's first-month revenue at $136 million worldwide, with $54.5 million through Steam, $27.2 million through PlayStation 5, and $2.7 million from Xbox Series S|X. This figure includes earnings from the Chinese version of the game, with estimated revenue outside China at around $100 million.
