Nintendo has officially announced the highly anticipated successor to the Nintendo Switch, aptly named the Nintendo Switch 2. The announcement arrived via a surprise video drop, without any prior hype directly from Nintendo.
Nintendo Switch 2 Features
The Nintendo Switch 2 retains a similar design to its predecessor, with the same tablet-plus-Joy-Con concept. Key differences include:
- Two USB-C ports: one on the bottom for docking, and another on top for charging.
- Joy-Cons slide into the side of the tablet and are secured with magnets and released with a lever on the back, making docking and undocking easier.
- Backwards compatibility with Nintendo Switch games.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to release in 2025, but a specific date has not yet been revealed.
The reveal trailer featured a glimpse of a Mario Kart game, which looks visually similar to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe but includes what appears to be a brand new map. Further details on the games will be available in the upcoming Nintendo Direct.
Nintendo will be hosting a Nintendo Direct specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2 on April 2, 2025.
