Improved DLSS Frame Generation for RTX 40 Series

NVIDIA's DLSS frame generation, initially introduced with the RTX 40 series, is receiving a significant upgrade. This enhancement will provide:

  • Improved performance
  • Lower latency
  • Reduced VRAM consumption

This update allows RTX 40 series GPUs to utilize the improved AI model which enhances performance and can free up valuable VRAM for other tasks. A shared screenshot showed 400 MB less VRAM usage, potentially beneficial for users with 8 GB GPUs.

The DLSS 4.0 suite also introduces Enhanced Ray Reconstruction, Super Resolution, and DLAA for the RTX 40 series.

While DLSS 4.0 introduces many improvements to frame generation, multi-frame generation will be reserved for the RTX 50 series.

DLAA and Latency Improvements

DLAA (Deep Learning Anti-Aliasing) will be available in beta for all RTX GPUs from the 20 to 50 series. While frame generation introduces a slight latency, NVIDIA states that with DLSS 4.0, latency is greatly reduced. Tests indicate the latency with DLSS 4.0 is comparable to DLSS 2.0 (however, reflex was disabled in 2.0 tests).

GeForce RTX 5060 Details Leak

NVIDIA has also reportedly begun planning different configurations for the GeForce RTX 5060 line. While the standard option will feature:

  • 8 GB of GDDR7 VRAM
  • GB206 GPU.

A 12 GB variant is also planned with:

  • 12 GB of GDDR7 VRAM
  • GB206 die measuring 183 mm².
  • 128-bit memory bus.

Both the 8GB and 12GB variants of the RTX 5060 are expected to launch in March.
