The highly anticipated NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition has been officially unboxed, revealing a significant shift in packaging design and providing an in-depth look at the card itself. NVIDIA has emphasized a more environmentally conscious approach, along with some impressive design changes.
Eco-Friendly Packaging
NVIDIA has moved away from the traditional packaging and embraced an "eco-friendly" design. The RTX 5090 FE comes in:
- An outer box made from paper fibers, with a brownish appearance.
- 100% plastic-free packaging.
- Packaging that's half the size of the RTX 4090 box.
- Unique seals similar to Apple's iPhone packaging.
- A “Inspired by Gamers. Enhanced by AI. Built by NVIDIA” motive under the tear strip.
Inside, the inner box features a "Lunar Stone" color scheme with die-cut branding, adding to the premium feel. It includes a 4x PCIe 8-pin to 1x 16-pin power connector.
RTX 5090 Design and Specifications
The RTX 5090 FE measures approximately 304mm x 137mm with a two-slot design and a height of 40mm. Key features include:
- Compatibility with "SFF-ready" guidelines, making it suitable for small form factor PC builds.
- A new "Double Flow Through" design with a multipart PCB.
- Two push fans that blow air through the central PCB.
- Separate PCB for the PCIe connector and a flexible board for high-speed signaling.
- A unified “3D Vapor Chamber” cooling system.
- Four output ports: Three DisplayPort 2.1b with UHBR 20 and one HDMI 2.1b port.
NVIDIA has managed to significantly reduce the size of the RTX 5090 and made it suitable for a wider range of builds.
