Nvidia RTX 5080 Laptop GPU Benchmarked: Outperforms RTX 4080
Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 laptop GPU shows a significant performance increase over the RTX 4080 in Geekbench, even with apparent throttling issues.
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 laptop GPU has surfaced on Geekbench, showing a notable performance uplift over its predecessor, the RTX 4080. Despite running at a lower clock speed, likely due to throttling, the new GPU demonstrates a clear generation-over-generation improvement. Geekbench Performance The RTX 5080 laptop GPU scored 190,326 in Geekbench's OpenCL benchmark. The test system, an 18-inch Alienware Area-51, was equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor. Although the benchmark shows a low 8GB of RAM (likely an error), the GPU itself boasts: 16 GB of VRAM 60 SMs (7,680 CUDA cores) Maximum frequency of 1.5 GHz Performance Uplift Despite a seemingly low maximum frequency, the RTX 5080 still manages a 20% performance increase over the RTX 4080. This improvement can likely be attributed to its faster GDDR7 VRAM. With proper firmware and no throttling, we can expect even higher performance gains from the GeForce RTX 5080. Source(s): Geekbench
