OnePlus 13R Tipped for Camera Upgrade, May Outshine Ace 5

The OnePlus 13R is rumored to feature a 2x telephoto camera, a significant upgrade over the Ace 5's macro lens.

The OnePlus 13R is set to launch on January 7th, and while it was initially thought to be a rebrand of the Ace 5, a new leak suggests a significant camera upgrade could set it apart.

OnePlus 13R Tipped for Camera Upgrade, May Outshine Ace 5

Unlike the OnePlus 12R and Ace 3 which had identical specifications, the OnePlus 13R is already confirmed to have a smaller battery than the Ace 5. However, a recent leak hints at changes to the camera setup as well.

OnePlus 13R Camera and Memory Specifications

Here are the detailed camera and memory specifications for the upcoming OnePlus 13R:

Rear Camera

  • Main: 50MP LYT-700 sensor
  • Ultrawide: 8MP sensor
  • Telephoto: 50MP JN5 sensor with 2x optical zoom

Selfie Camera

Front: 16MP sensor

Indian Model Memory and Storage

  • RAM Options: 12GB / 16GB LPDDR5X
  • Storage Options: 256GB / 512GB UFS 4.0

Camera Upgrade

The Ace 5 features a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro lens. The OnePlus 13R is rumored to replace the macro lens with a 50MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom. The sensor is said to be the Samsung JN5, also expected to feature in the Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim.

This telephoto upgrade could potentially make the OnePlus 13R a more compelling choice than the Ace 5, and it may be more attractive than some of the other sub-flagship phones powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

While it would be desirable to see it with the same 6,415mAh battery as the Ace 5, lower battery capacity in global variants is not uncommon.
