The upcoming OnePlus Open 2 is poised to address a significant limitation of its predecessor by introducing 50W wireless charging. This upgrade, confirmed by an Oppo executive, will bring the OnePlus Open 2 in line with the leading foldable devices, and match the forthcoming Oppo Find N5.
Wireless Charging: A Key Improvement
While the current OnePlus Open and its counterpart, the Oppo Find N3, offer 67W wired charging for a fast top-up, they lacked wireless charging capabilities, making them an outlier in the foldable market. This has now changed. According to Oppo's Zhou Yibao, the Find N5 will support 50W wireless charging, a feature that was absent in its predecessor. The OnePlus Open 2 will also come with the same wireless charging capabilities.
Matching the Industry Leaders
With this update, the OnePlus Open 2 and Oppo Find N5 will match the high-speed wireless charging offered by competitors like the Magic V3 and Mate X6. This move signals a significant step for both Oppo and OnePlus in their journey to lead the foldable smartphone space.
Additional Upgrades
Furthermore, it is reported that both the Oppo Find N5 and the OnePlus Open 2 are expected to receive IPX9 certification. Additional details about the phones will be revealed as they get closer to release.
