The upcoming NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop GPU may be the first to feature 3GB GDDR7 memory modules, according to leaker Golden Pig Upgrade. This could enable a 24GB configuration, marking a significant leap in laptop GPU memory.

The use of GDDR7 memory is expected to deliver a considerable bandwidth increase. While desktop models are rumored to feature 28 Gbps speeds, laptop GPUs currently use 18 Gbps GDDR6 memory. The upgrade to GDDR7 will provide an immediate improvement in bandwidth.
Both the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 Laptop GPUs are rumored to use the GB203 GPU, not the flagship of the Blackwell family. This limits the memory bus to 256-bit, but the new 3GB GDDR7 modules allow for non-standard capacities, such as 24GB.
Launch Timeline and Specifications
The RTX 50 series laptop GPUs are expected to launch in February, starting with the flagship RTX 5090 and RTX 5080. Lower-end models (5070/5060) may launch in March. Initially, the 3GB GDDR7 modules will be exclusive to the RTX 5090, unless a later "SUPER" refresh occurs.
The RTX 5090 Laptop GPU is likely to use the full GB203 GPU with 10,752 CUDA cores and a TGP of up to 175W. The RTX 5080 is rumored to feature 8,192 CUDA cores and 16GB of standard 2GB memory modules.
