Rebel Wolves, a studio founded by former The Witcher III director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, has officially unveiled its debut project: The Blood of Dawnwalker, a single-player open-world RPG. The reveal included a stunning CGI trailer and a brief look at in-game footage during a livestream.
A Dark Fantasy Setting in 14th-Century Carpathia
Set in the fictional region of Vale Lenora during the 14th-century Black Plague, The Blood of Dawnwalker blends historical elements with dark fantasy. The story begins when a powerful group of vampires, led by Brencis, seize control of the region. They promise security to the inhabitants but demand regular blood donations in return.
Protagonist Coen: A Unique Vampire
Players will take on the role of Coen, who is a special kind of vampire. Due to a silver poisoning he suffered before his transformation, he isn't as strong as a typical vampire, yet retains the ability to walk in daylight. His unique condition allows him to interact with both humans and the supernatural, and fight like a human during the day while unleashing his vampire powers at night.
Gameplay Mechanics: Day/Night Cycles and Blood Hunger
The Blood of Dawnwalker will feature distinct gameplay loops for day and night. Players will navigate a world filled with vampires, undead, Kobolds, and other creatures called uriashes. Friendships and enmities with various characters will influence the story, with only 30 in-game days and nights to achieve Coen's goal of taking down Brencis and saving his family. A blood hunger mechanic will also be a constant to monitor, affecting combat and player control.
Non-linear Storytelling
The game will not have the usual main and side quest structure, meaning that one playthrough won't be enough to see all the stories that are available.
Unreal Engine 5 Powered World
The game is being developed with Unreal Engine 5, which promises high-fidelity visuals and a fully realized open world. The full gameplay reveal is scheduled for this Summer. The game is being published by Bandai Namco and will be released on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X.
