After a challenging year, Ubisoft's future plans have been revealed by insider Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, suggesting a renewed focus and several big projects in development.
Ubisoft's Strategy and Assassin's Creed Shadows
According to Henderson, Ubisoft has paused merger negotiations (reportedly with Tencent) to assess the sales performance of Assassin's Creed Shadows. The success of this game is said to be a crucial factor in determining the company's stock value. While pre-orders for Shadows are decent, they are still lower compared to Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
Upcoming Games Through 2027 and Beyond
Here are some of the notable games that Ubisoft is planning to release over the next few years:
- By the end of 2026:
- Far Cry 7
- Assassin’s Creed Shadows
- Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Remake
- Assassin’s Creed Hexe
- New Ghost Recon title
- Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake
- In 2027 and beyond:
- The Division 3
- Rayman Remake
- Another Assassin's Creed Remake (codenamed Stardust)
- New role-playing Assassin's Creed game
- Beyond Good and Evil 2
Ubisoft and NFT
Ubisoft will also continue their work with NFT projects. Henderson has noted several NFT projects in development, including: Project U, Project Scout (similar to Apex Legends), Project Maverick (a Far Cry spin-off similar to Escape from Tarkov), and Project Alterra (similar to Animal Crossing).
Internal Concerns About Leadership
Sources within Ubisoft have expressed concerns about the company’s leadership and its CEO, Yves Guillemot, who is believed to be unwilling to relinquish control even if it means bringing the company down. Ubisoft had a difficult 2024: the launch of Skull & Bones was a failure; multiplayer shooter XDefiant is expected to be shut down closer to summer; and Assassin's Creed Shadows was delayed to February due to issues.
