Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 Customization Arrives: OLED VRR, 5G, and More

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 now fully customizable. Discover new OLED VRR display, expanded Intel Core Ultra CPU options, 5G connectivity, and up

Remember the buzz around the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 release in November? Excellent reviews highlighted its strengths, yet customization was notably limited. This felt unusual for the ThinkPad line, known for detailed configuration options. Lenovo hinted at broader options in "early 2025," and now the wait is over.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 Customization Arrives: OLED VRR, 5G, and More

ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 Becomes Truly Customizable

Lenovo's PSREF database update confirms significant upgrades for the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13. Expect full customization, aligning with ThinkPad tradition.

OLED Display with VRR for Enhanced Visuals

A new OLED display option enhances the visual experience. This brighter OLED screen reaches 500 cd/m², up from 400 cd/m². Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) is a key addition, providing smoother visuals and potential battery life improvements. VRR dynamically adjusts refresh rates, optimizing for both smoothness and battery efficiency.

Expanded Intel Core Ultra Processor Choices

CPU options are significantly expanded beyond the initial Core Ultra 7 258V. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 can now be configured with:

  • Intel Core Ultra 5 226V
  • Ultra 7 256V
  • Ultra 7 266V
  • Ultra 7 268V
  • Ultra 7 258V (original)

Ultra 7 models ending in "6" with 16GB RAM aim to lower the starting price, increasing accessibility.

New IPS Display Option Available

A new WUXGA IPS screen offers an alternative to OLED. This 500 cd/m² bright IPS display covers 100% sRGB and includes on-cell touch. While a super low-power IPS option is absent for now, this new IPS screen appears to be a strong choice.

5G Connectivity Arrives

Mobile professionals gain 5G connectivity. The Quectel RM520N-GL sub6 5G module is now configurable. Users can choose built-in 5G or a "5G upgradeable" version for future flexibility. This crucial addition enhances the X1 Carbon Gen 13's appeal for on-the-go users.

Upgraded Webcam for Improved Video Calls

An 8MP webcam option is now available, currently linked to the new WUXGA IPS screen. Expect sharper video calls and enhanced image clarity.

Order Availability

These new configuration options are already live on Lenovo's Japan site. This suggests a global rollout is imminent. Monitor your local Lenovo website for customization availability soon.
