Ever started a game, poured hours into character creation, only to realize that your hunter looks… well, not quite right once you're playing? It happens. Monster Hunter Wilds knows that struggle and luckily gives you a way to customize your hunter's looks. Whether you made a slight judgement call in the creator or just want a fresh style, here's your guide to changing appearance in Wilds.
Free Appearance Tweaks in Your Tent
Goodness to a hunter with tight pockets: Wilds allows, for free, some slight changes to your look. Once you put your feet down at Windward Plains Base Camp, the option to alter a few things about your look becomes available. This can also be done at Pop-up Camps later on. Here is how:
- At your Tent: Enter your hunter's tent anywhere, either at Base Camp or Pop-up Camp.
- Appearance Menu: Go through the tent menus to find “Appearance” – it is usually at the far end to the right.
- Select Change Appearance: By doing so, the customization screen opens.
With this free customization, you can change the following:
- Hair and Eye Color: Change the color of your hair and eyes according to your mood or your equipment.
- Makeup: Put on or change your hunter's makeup for some extra flair.
- Voice: Up for a voice change? Why not.
- Walk: Change the way your hunter walks.
- Clothes and Undercourse: Style your starting outfit and underwear.
Complete Character Makeover with Edit Vouchers - Paid
Now for the bad news-the entire makeover of your hunter's features: face shape, body build, and all the nitty-gritty options of the early character creation-will have to be done using a Character Edit Voucher. Sadly, an Edit Voucher is a paid DLC.
To perform a complete edit using a voucher:
- Back to Main Menu: Exit the game back to the main title menu.
- Start a game: Select that option from the menu.
- Edit Character option: Highlight your save file, look for the option reading Edit Character (generally X or Square on a controller).
- Use your Voucher: If you have a Character Edit Voucher (or Palico Edit Voucher for your friend) in your stock, you may perform a full character edit.
When using a voucher, you are basically allowed to re-create your hunter from scratch precisely as you did when you started the game. You can buy these vouchers in packages of three via the Steam shop or through the Support Desk (Conut) in the base camp, under the "DLC" option.
The Final Decision-Making Process
Before spending your bucks, do consider giving your tent options a try with the free appearance alterations. You might find that just changing the hair color or some makeup gives your hunter a great new look. If you decide against this and are still at an early level of the game, restarting will be far cheaper than buying vouchers. However, if you're after a proper makeover later, vouchers hold the key.
While you're in the tent's appearance menu, do remember that you can also change the look of your gear (after you get layered armor of course) and then change the look of your Seikret after the Windward Plain story. Happy hunting, happy styling.
