What an opening for 2025, PlayStation fans. Sony presented one of its most amazing State of Play presentations ever to start the New Year with a bang. It was so compact that if you blinked, you could very easily miss something. There was an eye-popping collection of almost 30 new game announcements and trailers, rolled out in a little over 40 minutes. Sequels we have been waiting years for and completely new absolutely fresh IPs were presented. There was literally something for everyone. Let's go over some highlights, ensuring you are updated on the biggest news.
Headline Grabbers: Release Dates Locked in
A number of big titles finally locked down their release dates, giving us an awful lot to look forward to in the coming months:
- Monster Hunter Wilds: Prepare to hunt starting February 28. Capcom has shown off even more of this expected title and has brought back the terrifying Mizutsune.
- Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater: The remake is confirmed for its launch on August 28. Revive the uncategorically classic into magnificent beauty.
- Borderlands 4: Loot and shoot your way through Pandora starting September 23. Gearbox dropped a new trailer and confirmed the date for this looter-shooter sequel.
- Shinobi: Art of Vengeance: Ninja action returns on August 29. An update of the classic title regarding vengeance shoot at returning.
- WWE 2K25: Get ready to rumble on March 14, on both PS4 and PS5.
- Hell Is Us: Walk through a dark world with the demons of humanity on September 4.
- Days Gone Remastered: Survive hordes on PS5 beginning on April 25, while new content will arrive to PCs as DLC.
- Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny: Coming back to the world of feudal Japan with new modernized control and improved graphics on May 23.
- Lost Soul Aside: After this, you can pre-order on February 19, with the launch on May 30.
New Game Trailers and Early Looks
Besides all the release dates, new trailers flooded the State of Play with fresh gameplay and story action:
- Onimusha: Way of the Sword: From a brand new entry coming in 2026, Miyamoto Musashi becomes the newest protagonist in the Onimusha saga. The trailer lets us know there will be some action.
- Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds: Get set for some racing at high speed and hopping worlds. Here is a closed network test on February 21.
- Digimon Story Time Stranger: 2025 promises a new Digimon adventure where time-traveling is done across worlds.
- Split Fiction: The narrative trailer of Hazelight Studios' latest co-op title hints at the intriguing storylines players will encounter.
- Directive 8020: Supermassive Games brings space horror into this one. Astronauts grapple with a deadly alien threat in this Dark Pictures Anthology entry, set to launch on October 2.
- Five Nights at Freddy's: Secret of the Mimic: Thus, get ready for more frights coming your way on June 13.
- The Midnight Walk: An intriguing "dark fantasy adventure" could be expected to PS5 and PS VR2 on May 8. Evan de Wildfire: I can sense that in this new title, players will escape a food factory, as is fairly well known in this format.
- Blue Prince: A film that crosses boundaries in an ever-shifting manor – watch this one.
- Abiotic Factor: This Early Access title on PC will be launching on consoles later this summer.
- Tides of Annihilation: London meets Avalon in this action-packed title where you lead the Knights of the Round Table.
- Metal Eden: Fast-paced sci-fi FPS action was teased in its reveal.
- Mindseye: Go to this upcoming title, which shall explore human greed and its interaction with AI in upcoming realities.
- Saros: Housemarque unveiled a new game via a cinematic trailer, with a gameplay trailer coming later this year.
DLC and Updates to Watch Out for
Not just fresh games; even some existing favorites are getting much bigger:
- Dave the Diver: Ichiban Kasuga from Yakuza dives in with new DLC in April.
- Lies of P: Overture: The prequel DLC to the Soulslike hit arrives this summer.
- Stellar Blade and Goddess of Victory: Nikke: Both are receiving new DLC content in June.
- Monster Hunter Wilds Update: Mizutsune and further content will join in a free update this spring.
