Bambu Lab H2D: A New Era of Multi-Tool 3D Printing
Bambu Lab has just dropped something seriously cool: the H2D. If you thought their previous 3D printers were cool, strap yourself in, because this gadget takes it to a new level. It doesn't just print in a few colors – it's a serious multi-tool for makers that cuts, draws, and even laser engraves.
One Machine, Many Talents
Imagine having one machine that can do a multitude of creative projects. That is what the H2D is all about. With a clever and interchangeable toolhead system, you can easily change functions:
- A precision blade for cutting through materials like vinyl, paper, or fabric.
- A pen holder for drawing fine lines, logos, patterns, or even circuit boards.
- A high-power laser module for burning designs into wood, leather, plastic, and more.
Enhanced 3D Printing Capability
Yeah, it's still a Bambu 3D printer through and through, and they've included some significant upgrades here as well. The H2D features:
- Dual Extruders: Print detailed models with soluble supports or combine two different colors/materials in a single print without having to manually swap filament.
- Amplified Build Volume: With a spacious print bed of 350 x 320 x 325 mm, you can print much bigger projects – roughly double the size of previous models.
- High-Temp Capability: Accommodating nozzles up to 350°C opens the door to possibility of printing engineering-grade materials.
- Efficient Filament System: An updated feed system operates on reducing the filament waste in rechanges.
Lasers and Safety Considerations
The ability to laser cut and engrave is perhaps the most notable aspect. Choose a 10-watt or one of the higher 40-watt lasers, capable of precise engraving and cutting fine detail shapes. Bambu has also placed maximum importance on safety, including frosted safety windows, various sensors, and a conveniently placed emergency stop switch.
Smooth Operation and Filament Management
The H2D is further enhanced by Bambu's Automatic Material System (AMS 2 Pro and AMS HT), with a filiment drying mode – crucial to obtain first-class prints, especially with humidity-sensitive material. Intelligent ventilation reduces warping when printing lower-temperature plastics, and a chamber heater maintains a stable temperature for consistent results.
New Software Control with Bambu Suite
All of these features are controlled by the new Bambu Suite software. Already it allows you to establish basic settings for the laser, blade, and pen tools through simple shapes and text. Bambu has promised an April update that will free up the use of user-uploaded projects, greatly broadening its creative scope.
Availability and Pricing
This level of flexibility does not come without a price tag. The base model Bambu H2D is $1899. If you want the laser and cutting modules, packages range from $2799 to $3499.
Pre-orders are now live on the Bambu website, with shipping of the first units planned for sometime in late April.
