Rejoice, fellow porters — the wait is nearly over. Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, folks: Hideo Kojima, the man responsible for the iconic Metal Gear Solid franchise and the ever-so-bizarre Death Stranding, finally spilled the beans we've been duplicitously drooling about for what feels like forever: the release date for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.
After an initial reveal back in 2022 and a tantalizing trickle of updates from Kojima Productions, the silence has been broken in a big way. In a panel at SXSW, Kojima appeared on stage to deliver the news: rest assured, we'll meet again on June 26th, 2025.
Circle June 26th, 2025 On Your Calendars — PS5 Exclusive Release
Yes, you heard it right. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach now has an official release date, arriving on June 26, 2025. The game will be exclusive to PlayStation 5, at least for now. The original Death Stranding did eventually get ported to PC and Xbox, but for the moment, PS5 is your entryway back into the Kojimaverse. Whether other platforms will follow is anyone’s guess, but history serves us well.
Go Deep: New Trailer Release Date
But the release date wasn't the only present Kojima brought to SXSW. A new trailer for Death Stranding 2 was also shown off, and that’s a feast for the eyes, and the mind. Putting in an appearance as the longest trailer by a margin, it’s far from just a feast for the eyes. It provides a deeper look at the developing story and a better understanding of how the gameplay is building upon the foundations of the original title.
Collector's Edition Dreams: Magellan Man and more
For die-hard fans, Kojima Productions also revealed a gorgeous Death Stranding 2 Collector's Edition. Get those wallets ready, because this is a doozy:
- DS2: The Game — Digital Download: Obviously, you're going to need the game.
- Early Access: Play 48-hours earlier than everyone else.
- Hillbilly or Boogeyman: Its season of the service, visual hoarders are celebrating with another physical collectible to decorate the shelf.
- Art Cards: A gallery set of art cards to get a visual compete showing of DS2.
