Game Informer Magazine Returns From The Dead: Gunzilla Games Steps In
Reports last summer suggested the lights went out for good at Game Informer. It appeared to be another casualty of print publishing in the video game world. However, the classic video game magazine is staging an unexpected resurrection.
Reports of its death were slightly ahead of time. The magazine has returned in editorial fanfare, in its standard style. This game Lazarus act has an unlikely source.
An Unlikely Hero Steps In
The rescuer is Gunzilla Games. This Frankfurt game studio, co-founded by movie director Neil Blomkamp (director of 'District 9'), acquired the brand rights from GameStop. Game Informer will now be an independent freestanding company, Game Informer Inc.
It is a curious move, a games maker grabbing a respected voice in the press. This move is designed to preserve the autonomy and heritage of the magazine.
