For mini-PC enthusiasts, GMKtec is about to release something unearthly: the EVO-X2. This is not just another compact computer. It is becoming a powerhouse. Much is being said about it as one of the first to hold AMD's just-launched Strix Halo architecture.
AMD Strix Halo-Now Also As Mini-PC
GMKtec joins the party with others already announcing devices based on AMD's Strix Halo. Asus, Framework, and HP are also in this group. The EVO-X2 is going to have a choice of two amazing APUs. These are the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 and the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 Pro. These will surely leap ahead in performance while remaining in the small PC form factor we are familiar with.
Power That Goes Beyond
GMKtec has yet to announce the complete design of the EVO-X2. Hints are fairly obvious that it will be a great leap forward in performance. Consider the EVO-X1 that already carries an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. The EVO-X2 is going for something even more powerful.
The Secret: AMD's Strix Halo Architecture
The Ryzen AI Max+ 395 is at the center of the EVO-X2. It has 16 Xe Zen 5 CPU cores. Those needing a little bit more would also be able to purchase the Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 395 edition. This edition will provide support for EEC RAM.
Graphics And Memory Power
The EVO-X2 will not be all about CPU power. Graphics are in focus too. It packs a Radeon 8060S iGPU with 40 Compute Units based on AMD's latest RDNA 3.5 architecture. For a mini-PC, that's some serious graphical firepower.
Memory and storage will not be any bottleneck either. The EVO-X2 is expected to support an astonishingly high 128 GB of LPDDR5X RAM. It will support 8,000 MT/s. It will also come with PCIe 4.0 fast storage.
To Be Decided
Presently, the pricing details and the actual purchasing of the EVO-X2 are still a mystery. GMKtec has only teased it for the Chinese market for now. If power mini-PCs inspire you, especially those powered by the latest Strix Halo from AMD, the GMKtec EVO-X2 is surely something to look out for.
