Ubisoft is gearing up to release Rainbow Six Siege X. This gigantic update reimagines the game. It is not just fine-tuning. The headliner is Dual Front, a brand-new 6v6 game mode. Rainbow Six Siege players have never experienced this before.
What Exactly IS Dual Front? Let's Break It Down
Imagine attacking AND defending at the same time. That's Dual Front in a nutshell. It is a 6v6 battle on the largest map Siege has ever seen. It is all about winning the map. There is a twist to it.
In order to win, your team will need to dominate. You are not just moving forward. You are holding points. You are defending zones that you have. You are trying to take zones for the opposing side. Popping an enemy zone is planting the defuser and getting it to blow. It is old-school Siege bomb mode, only doubled in terms of activity.
Matches can go as long as 30 minutes. Most fights will likely wrap up in a thrilling 20-25 minute timeframe.
Mark Your Calendars: Date is June 2025
Dual Front is ready to go and roll as part of Rainbow Six Siege X's update. This update is descending upon Year 10 Season 2. It is due out in June 2025. Mark your calendars and get ready to get in on it then.
How Does This Simultaneous Attack/Defense Thing Work?
It is mad. But it is designed well. Think of it as two battles being fought in parallel:
- Blue Lane (Defense): You have three regions in the blue lane to defend and protect. This is your territory.
- Red Lane (Attack): On the other side of you, the opposing team has their red lane with regions you need to capture.
- Identical Lanes, Different Vibes: The two lanes are mirror copies of one another in layout. They each have very distinct looks and feels.
- Preparation is Key: At the start, you have a minute to reinforce your defenses and strategize your attacks.
- Action Time: After prep, the game starts. You can prowl your blue lane freely and drive into ONE of the defined enemy sectors. These sectors are highlighted on the map. Attempt to sneak into the red lane further in? Instant death.
- Neutral Zone: Risk and Reward: The middle section is wide open. Anybody can go in there. It is a high-risk, high-reward zone.
- Dokkaebi Rescue Event: Observe the neutral ground. Halfway through the match, a special event starts off. Teams get to scramble and rescue Dokkaebi in the style of a hostage crisis.
- Respawn and Adapt: Been killed? Fret not. You will respawn in one of your teammates' zones. You can swap operators during gameplay to alter strategy on the spot.
Attackers and Defenders… TOGETHER
This is where Dual Front really gets revolutionary. For the first time in history, Siege is letting attackers and defenders team up on the same squad. Just imagine the strategic potential:
- Combine Nomad's airjabs with Azami's Kiba Barriers for total zone control.
- Lock down a defuser deployed by your attacking teammate using Smoke's toxic canisters.
This opens up a whole new level of operator combinations. Get ready to experiment and discover killer combos.
Operator Roster: Rotation and Balance
While Dual Front does let you mix up attackers and defenders, not all operators will be available at all times. Ubisoft considered this:
- Rotating Operator Pool: To prevent boredom from repetition, the Dual Front operator pool will rotate on a monthly rotation. This forces players to switch their strategies, try out new stuff, and pick up more operator combos.
- Balancing Act: Some operators will be too overpowered or need adjusting for Dual Front's special dynamics. Lion, whose scan would cover the entire large map, is a prime example of an operator in need of special handling.
- Gadget Tweaks: Some gadgets can be adjusted particularly for Dual Front so the experience is level and fun.
The Battlefield: Welcome to District
For now, Dual Front matches will be hosted on one specifically designed map: District. It is bigger than your usual Siege map. It has those crossed lanes which are ideal for attacking and defending. District will not be static. Ubisoft has plans to work on it with future patches. The map will evolve and grow in the long run.
Dual Front: A Game Changer for Siege and New Players?
Rainbow Six Siege is celebrating its 10th anniversary with Siege X and Dual Front. It seems like a gamble to put the game back in the limelight. Interestingly, Dual Front seems to be unexpectedly beginner-friendly. Why?
- 6v6 Less Stressful Than 5v5: With an extra player on each team, comebacks are easier and the pressure is reduced.
- Respawn Reduces the Stress: Death is not final. Respawning = more action, more practice, and less regret of letting down your team.
- Streamlined Operator Roster (Launch): Having fewer operators available at launch ensures new players are not bogged down by the enormous character roster of Siege.
Game director Joshua Mills even emphasized this approachability. He pointed out that having a smaller roster "makes it easier for them to learn the ins and outs of different operators."
Siege X: Transformation, Not Just an Update
Siege X is something greater than another content update. It is a "transformation" of Rainbow Six Siege itself. Why not a sequel? Because the power of Siege is the player experience, built up over ten years. Trying to do that in a sequel would be incredibly complicated. It might lose the very essence of what makes Siege special.
Instead, Ubisoft is pouring investment into developing Siege's core technology in a modular way. They can keep developing and iterating the game for many years to come. Dual Front is an example of this. It is a bold, new mode that pushes Siege in exciting ways.
Be sure to join us for the Siege X Showcase
Want to see Dual Front in action? Ubisoft is hosting a massive Siege X show, live from Atlanta, Georgia, with a gigantic online broadcast on March 13th. They have an all-star team of co-streamers, including Twitch legends Shroud, HasanAbi, and Ludwig, to give you the first look.
Even top-level Siege streamers are excited. Macie Jay wrote on Twitter: "Rainbow Six Siege X reveal tomorrow is legit going to be nuts."
While some of the fans have disputed the list of co-streamers, having notable names who aren't part of the core Siege community clearly shows that Siege X is seeking a broad reach. As one commenter put it: "Having streamers that don't play Siege.is very good for Siege. It's going to get tons of eyes on the game."
The Future of Siege is Looking Bright
Rainbow Six Siege Dual Front is shaping out to be an exhilarating inclusion to the title. It offers up a fresh, intense, and surprisingly newcomer-welcoming experience. June of 2025 cannot get here soon enough.
